Author Fair: Growing a Plot by Saying 'Yes'

2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Lexington Park Library. Presented by Dana Staves. We constantly edit our thoughts, presenting a revised version of ourselves to the world. This constant self-revision can seep into our writing lives, inhibiting our ability to create a complex and interesting plot. But if we step back and start saying “yes,” what wonderful things can happen in our writing? This workshop will answer that question. Based on one of the foundations of improvisational theatre, apply the principle of “yes, and...” to your fiction. Participate in freewriting exercises and large group story plotting, preparing yourself to build up and out in your individual story work. Please bring writing materials (paper, pen, etc.), an open mind, and the willingness to say, “yes, and...”. Registration required. 301-863-8188
