PUBLIC HOUSING
 

Public Housing in St. Mary’s County is purposefully blended in with existing communities, creating a true sense of mixed income Public Housing photoneighborhoods.  The Housing Authority takes great pride in achieving continually high scores on the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of its two public housing developments.

Rental housing, outside of the Public Housing realm, has been incorporated into the Housing Authority’s portfolio.  The intent of procuring, rehabilitating, and renting scattered-site housing offers multiple benefits:

  • community investment

  • rejuvenate homeowner investment interest

  • financing tools available for home repair and rehabilitation

  • Brings community-based programs such as community policing and/or homework centers, into the neighborhoods where Housing Authority assets are located

Public Housing is offered to families whose incomes are at or below 80% of the median income, and are offered on a first come-first served basis.  Tenants must meet housing eligibility and must attend occupancy training annually.
