TRAINING WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE

Fun for Everyone GraphicThe Department of Recreation & Parks now offers Certified Childcare Training for continuing training clock hours for the childcare community. All training workshops offered are certified through the Child Care Administration. Participants will receive participation certificates at the end of each workshop. The entire community is encouraged to register for the training.  Pre-registration is required for all sessions!

Groups or organizations can schedule individual sessions for ten persons or more for the training sessions listed below upon request. For any questions about the content of the training or other areas, please contact Christi Bishop at 301-475-4200 x 1802

Training Title/Description: (2 hours) Communication

  • To gain a clear understanding on what communication is.
  • To understand the issues faced by individuals with disabilities in regards to communication.
  • To understand an individuals right in regards to communication
  • To learn basic rules of etiquette.
      

Training Title/Description: (2 hours) Inclusion

Objectives

  • To learn what inclusion is.
  • To learn about barriers to and benefits of inclusion.
  • To learn about general guidelines and tips for inclusion, program modifications, activity modifications and accessibility.
  • To gain some knowledge on specific modifications for specific disorders.
      

Training Title/Description: (2 hours) ADHDTraining workshop photo

Objectives

  1. To increase participants knowledge on what Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is and the symptoms that may accompany it.
  2. Gain knowledge on how to accommodate your situation for a child that has ADHD.
  3. Learn activities to help children relax and get into a positive mood.\
  4.  Learn stress management and relaxation techniques to aid you in handling difficult children properly.
     

Training Title/Description: (2 hours) Conduct Disorders

Objectives

  1. To increase participant's knowledge on what Conduct Disorders are and the symptoms that may accompany them.
  2. Gain general knowledge on how to accommodate you situation for a child that has Conduct Disorder.
  3. Learn "Basic Teaching" strategies for dealing with difficult children.
  4. The basics of Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Management.

Training Title/Description: (4 hours) Disability Awareness 2 sessions-
PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS TO EARN CERTIFICATE

Objectives:

  1. To offer a clear understanding of disabilities and mental diagnosis.
  2. To offer an understanding of confidentiality and discrimination issues.
  3. To offer information on Federal legislation related topics and specific disorders.
  4. To offer an understanding of the fundamental rights of individuals with disabilities and how to advocate for them.

Objectives

  1. Participates will gain an understanding of what crisis behavior is, what events can cause a crisis situation, and the stages of a crisis.
  2. Participants will learn some basics do's and don’ts during crisis situations.
  3. Participants will learn about how to utilized documentation before, during and after crisis situations.

Training Title/Description: (2 hours) Childcare and the Americans with Disabilities Act

Objectives

  1. Participants will learn about the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it effects Child care centers, private and community.
  2. Allowance for a large question and answer period to address the specific concerns of the group.
  3. Participants will learn about the benefits of including children with disabilities into their programs and how to help certain children to be successful in their program.
