Maryland Day (observed) - Thursday, March 24, 2 pm – St. Clement’s Island Museum

The St. Mary’s County Board of Commissioners and the Museum Division of the Department of Recreation and Parks will host its annual Maryland Day program at the St. Clement’s Island Museum on Thursday, March 24 beginning 2 p.m. This one-hour commemorative program is offered in honor of the first brave Marylanders who founded the Maryland colony at St. Clement’s Island on March 25, 1634. This event is free and open to the public and will feature a one-hour program with remarks by the St. Mary’s County Board of Commissioners and keynote speaker Mark Belton, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. A wreath-laying ceremony will follow the commemorative program at the St. Clement’s Island historical marker. All visitors attending this day are invited to enjoy free admission to the museum. The site also offers a 19th-century one-room schoolhouse and exterior dory boat exhibit.

Friday, March 25th – Summer Hours begin at the St. Clement’s Island Museum and the Piney Point Lighthouse, Museum and Historic Park in Piney Point. Both museums will be open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September.
