Also wear sun screen, and insect repellant and bring bottled water. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic river view and playful waterfowl. And don't forget the camera! The lighthouse, operated and maintained by the St. Clement's Hundred, is scheduled to be open the first weekend of every month and every Saturday.

August 3 - National Lighthouse Day at Piney Point Lighthouse
To commemorate the federal designation of National Lighthouse Day, the Piney Point Lighthouse, Museum and Historic Park encourages everyone to visit the Piney Point Lighthouse built in 1836. Enjoy a climb to the top of the tower and tour the inside of the keeper's quarters where local artists will be set up to display and sell their beautiful works of art. The museum and Potomac River Maritime Exhibit will also be included in your tour. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic and relaxing historic campus. Sidewalks, boardwalk and pier make the grounds handicap accessible. Call the museum for additional info at 301-994-1471. Open 10 am to 5 pm.

August 3 - National Lighthouse Day at Blackistone Lighthouse
The St. Clement's Island Museum and St. Clement's Hundred organization invite the public to commemorate National Lighthouse Day with a visit to the reconstructed Blackistone Lighthouse on St. Clement's Island State Park. The museum offers water taxi service to the Island beginning at 10 am. A fee of $7 person covers the water taxi and museum admission.

Visitors are encouraged to wear walking shoes for the 1/2 mile walk to the lighthouse, bring water, sun screen, and camera. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy eating at the pavilion or any of the other picnic tables located along the rivers edge. All are invited to tour the lighthouse and climb to the top of the tower. St. Clement's Hundred volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and offer history of the lighthouse.
