Bocce is a fast growing Italian sport with features similar to
bowling and shuffleboard. It can be played in almost any
setting, by people of all ages and all abilities. Bocce is a
competitive game of skill. The basic principle of the sport is
to roll a bocce ball down a long, narrow playing court, aiming
to end up closest to the target ball. In addition to being fun
to play, it can sharpen the reflexes and enhance judgment. Other
benefits of bocce ball include healthy social interaction, light
physical activity, strategic planning, and friendly competition.
Permanent Bocce courts were constructed in 2013 at
Chancellors Run Regional Park. They are open for free play
during normal park operation hours when scheduled programming is
not in occurrence. Six week sessions and one day workshops are
offered in the Spring and Summer.
