SOUTHERN MARYLAND TRAVEL & TOURISM COMMITTEE

Goals & Objectives FY 2005

               I.      Continue to increase revenue to the region.

1.       Increase the number of travel writers to bring more press trips to Southern Maryland to generate published articles leading to an increase in visitation to the region.

2.       Continue to develop and promote regional travel itineraries.

             II.      Market and promote what makes Southern Maryland unique and attractive – heritage, history, natural resources, events, ambiance, and culture – to the Mid-Atlantic region.

1.       Enhance and market the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Driving Tour.

a)       Promote brochure through advertising and other venues.

b)       Upload a printable version of the Heritage Driving Tour Brochure & Bicycle Map onto the website.

c)       Host Bike Event FAM.

2.       Continue to market to the motorcoach industry at PBA.

3.       Maintain, retain, and improve the regional tourism website. www.southermdisfun.com . Expand to include Heritage Area Section.

4.       Maintain the regional advertising campaign.

5.       Conduct the marketing efforts of the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium.

6.       Market the region electronically.

            III.      Create awareness of the importance of tourism and advocate for development and support.

1.       Keep the three (3) Boards of County Commissioners aware of the activities of the SMTTC.

a.     Prepare and present Annual Report at the end of each fiscal year.

2.   Write and submit press releases on major committee activities to the media.

3.   Enhance regional interaction with staff from Maryland office of Tourism Development (MOTD).

4.   Participate in the Southern Maryland Tourism Awareness Day and other related events.

          IV.      Support implementation of the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Tourism Management plan.
